- Doom was outstanding. Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar was top tier as well (I still listen to the soundtrack to this day). Aliens vs. Predator had moments of brilliance. Iron Soldier was the most immersive mecha game at the time.
- Good article.
I did not appreciate this as a D&D playing kid in the early 80s. Much preferred Dark Tower or a dragon card game with plastic gems (can’t recall the name, but it had very evocative art).
- Stunning images. I’m not sure how many people here are old enough to remember when Tempest hit arcades, but it was really a perfect game. Graphics, audio, controls, gameplay. An instant classic,
- jgrahamc 385 days agoI remember. It was totally amazing.
- nv0bdizc 384 days agoI love Tempest 2000 on Jaguar, but I feel like I'm missing out on the tactile heft of the rotary controller and the visual impact of the original arcade machine.
- ghostdancer 385 days agoThe colors, the sound, the adrenaline rush, everything made to stand out. A classic.
- Ahhh, we had some fun multiplayer gaming with the Lynx. 6-8 of us would stay after work and play Checkered Flag, Todd’s Adventures in Slime World, Rampage, Battlewheels and a few others. Pretty impressive for the time.
- That's unfortunate. What country, if you don't mind me asking?
Would also recommend SquadGodDev. Very informative.
"Destination Playdate" on YouTube is another good one. He demos new games and posts pretty frequently.
- I’ve had mine for a few weeks. Hardware is solid, it’s built like a Nokia phone. My only complaint about the hardware is the screen. Very crisp, but no backlight is a major bummer. Battery life is good, but not great, and that must have factored into their backlight decision.
Games are a mixed bag so far (you get 24 with the console, plus can purchase or sideload more). The 24 games included are unlocked over time (I think there is an option to unlock them all immediately, but I like the slow drip of new content). Some are easier to pick up and play than others. A few feel incomplete. One is more of an activity than a game. But i appreciate the diversity and a couple of them are very addictive.
It feels retro, but in a good way. I carry mine everywhere and crank out a game or two instead of fiddling with my phone. Most of the games so far are designed for very short playtimes. Overall, I like it, but my experience is limited.
