    VRML, remember when was the hype, everything was going to be 3D. There were plugins for the web browser, but it didn't worked out it was slow as hell as internet at that time was limited (slow AF). "Jurassic Park" and "Hackers" movies with 3D file browsers, really nice but of less practical that the 2D representation.

    For the day job, I burned several months working on weather visualizations in VRML.

    As noted, it was slow AF. In the end openGL native clients won out. Just a superior experience in terms of interactivity. The pipeline was just better suited OpengL and direct X. Games sold thr hardware and us propeller head scientists were happy to take advantage
