When the Jaguar appeared, I still recall the hype and it looked like it was going to bring back the throne to Atari or at least make it again a name in the industry, but soon was running around the word that it was a very powerful but very difficult and complicated console to program, Atari could not bring big names on board and only got few games.

On the brightside they got a really strong showing from Id. Atari really should have leaned into that considering how much of a phenomenon Doom was at the time. The Jaguar had the definitive Doom and Wolf3D console ports until the PSX turned up.

Doom was outstanding. Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar was top tier as well (I still listen to the soundtrack to this day). Aliens vs. Predator had moments of brilliance. Iron Soldier was the most immersive mecha game at the time.

The colors, the sound, the adrenaline rush, everything made to stand out. A classic.

The first time we played Driller in our Spectrum, after seen it in some magazine, probably "Crash", our heads were blown up, the photos were great but to watch, move around and play in that 3D environment in our computers was an experience. Remember sharing with friends the coordinates of the best drilling places.

My first taste of a unixy OS. My dad's 286 dual booted, MS-DOS or Xenix. There was that strange edition program called vi that you almost had to invoke a demon to get out. I had a note with some esoteric commands for vi.

I was given a photocopied “cheat” sheet of commands from a Bell Labs systems manual. Only later in university did I learn that w and q could be strung together in sequence.

The best blog post for the that is the already classic one from https://www.windytan.com/2012/11/the-sound-of-dialup-picture...
