    A highly performant C compiler on the 6502 is certainly doing the Lord's work, but I'd still rather write in assembly.

      If I need to write on the metal - I prefer to use a Macro Assembler like the Atari Macro Assembler or a bespoke cross assembler. I no longer have the mental focus to keep all the flags and state in my head as I did in my teens and twenties.
